68 Satellite, Modern Engine Swap
I have a 68 Satellite, and currently have the 273 v8. This engine is on it's way out however, and is going to need to be rebuilt.
I am more interested in replacing it with a modern fuel injection engine, or possibly even a turbo diesel.
I am trying to get away with doing this cheaply, does anyone know if there are engine that could be easily swapped that I could get a junk yard out of some newer car? What engines would fit. I have an automatic tranny and it runs pretty smoothly so I would probably keep that.
Thanks, for the info

You have an LA motor. All the Magnum motors that in the Ram trucks would not bolt up to the tranny that you have. The best that you can do is find an ealry 90s ram truck that has a TBI small block in it. grab the engine, wiring and everything else. Only other way to get EFI is to get a kit which can be big money depending on which way you go.

Hi there, I really can,t help you much with your question, but I have a 68 Satellite with a two barrel and 66000 original miles. Does yours have a four barrel. I,am looking for an intake and 4 barrel or any other original parts for this engine. If your going to replace your engine and not rebuild I would be in the market for any parts if you are selling. Thanks Ken

If you want OD, then i would suggest finding a 2wd ram 1500 and pulling out the motor, tranny, slip yoke, wiring and computers. People have done it and have talked about it on here, although I don't believe we have gotten any feed back from them about how it went.
If you go that way then you may be able to use the same motor mounts (or you'll have to make up new ones), you'll need to fab a new tranny crossmember and get a radiator for it all.
