Electrical germlins part II

Electrical problems continue to haunt and prevent the first drive of the year, at this rate I'll get her on the road just in time to put her away for the winter.

Installed a new Tach, Electric oil pressure, electric water temp and fuel guage, all from iEquus, each hooked up on it's own separate circuit. The gauge back lighting works, but thats about it. With the key in the ignition and the engine off, the oil pressure pegs, so does the tach and water gauge all fully to the right, the fuel gauge pegs fully to the left and there is a rapid clicking/buzzing sound from the engine bay, BUT the stock fuel gauge works, go figure! Un- hook everything and the stock fuel gauge stops working.

I only had them hooked up for maybe 45 seconds tops and now the Battery is dead! It's on charge now, and I'll go at it again in the morning one gauge at a time.

Update!

After a taking a break for a beer I decided to give it another shot this evening, and I have everything except both gas gauges working (stock and aftermarket) The stock fuel gauge dosn't move at all and the new iEquus ones goes to 1/2 a tank then the needle starts bouncing (tank is full), if you unplug the ground wires it peg to the right, and if you unhooked the sender wire it pegs to the left and the strange one is, if you unplug the power wire it pegs to the left!

So I think I have somewhere on the car a powered wire grounding out, now if only I could find it!

The buzzing/clicking went away after I unhooked the gauges, and did not return when I hooked them back up, I can not duplicate it. Sounded like an electrical switch opening and closing, came from the right side of the engine bay, almost sounded like a door warning buzzer. It may have been my horn attempting to work. I think I'll get the horn working, then tackle the gauges one at a a time!

I agree with the gauges not drawing enough to kill a new battery in under a minute, but something did, I just have to find it!

With the Battery now fully charged, I get a white/yellow spark when I unhook the post cable and tap the post with it. There was nothing when the battery was dead!
