Electrical gremlin?
Electrical gremlin?
I'm having a hard time figuring out why, my horn, clock, water temp and gas gauge don't work. I've checked every thing I can think of, I even have a second instrument cluster, and have re-wired all the grounds behind the dash and the fuse box.
Looking at the wiring diagrams the effected items don't share anything in common.
And on a semi related mote does anyone know the Ohm range for the fuel tank sending unit? How many ohms full how many empty?
Car is a 64 Sport fury!
Thanks in advance!

I've tried 3 different and new regulators, re grounded all the grounds, tried a second set of gauges, and re-wired the fuse box, in theory they all should be working, but arn't!
Yeah! I'm getting Ohms at the sending unit and the gauge, and voltage at the gauges. I have two instrument clusters and have tried both, along with 3 new voltage regulators, I've even ran new wiring from the sending units direct to the gauges so there are no shorts or breaks in the line.
Since I want to drive this car asap I've ordered a set of after-market gauges, Electric water temp, Electric oil pressure, and fuel level, and will mount them in a pod next to the shifter so I can drive it daily while still trying to figure out the original gauges!
On what may be a related subject, I noticed yesterday that when the ignition is on, but the car not running, the left turn signal is dimly lit, anyone have an idea what this is about?
thanks
Mike

the other posibility is (although unlikely) is that some of your wires may be shorting across each other.
did you get the car with this problem or did it just occur?
I brought the car back in October, everything was working then, i only briefly drove it (like a day) before the snow came and i put it away for the winter, i never really got a chance for a good shake down before I had to park it!
With the dimly lit signal light being a possible ground fault, I'll have to go looking behind the dash and elsewhere, I'll bet dollars to doughnuts this is related to the gauge/horn/clock issue!

has your car electricals been played with?
I have found with a lot of home electricians that when they fit radio`s etc. they just hack into the wiring loom.
As 413 said you could have more than one problem
I think that the horn issue will be a seperate problem than the gauges.
I am also 99% certain that the dim light will have some bearing on the gauge problem.
I would start by checking the under dash wiring for damage posibly caused by some fool playing around with no idea of what he was doing.
