gas tank color

I bought a new gas tank for the GTX. The company I bought it from advised me to paint it, just to protect it.
That got me wondering, from mopar, were the tanks ever painted?
Undercoating sometimes covered them right?
Does anyone know if different years were painted different colors?

My 62 Dart was not painted and no undercoat either. Thought it was weird for it to be bare, but it was not rusted all that much even after 14 years touching the ground under it.

I painted mine black. You do not notice it which is the way I think it should be.

On my Fury, I have undercoating on the sides of the tank and overspray undercoating on the bottom sides. It's uneven and the main body of the middle of my tank is bare. Absolute quality!! lol

My tank was changed before me and they didn't do anything to it?? Still looks new after 4 years. They trunk floor hangs down low enough you really don't see the tank and I think if I was putting a new tank in I would undercoat it for protection. Just my 2 cents....

I used Eastwood's Tank Tone with a top coat of their satin Diamond Clear.
