Need Help - 68 Charger Lighting
Good day to all, I'm new to this forum and have read many of your posts related to problematic lights on Chargers although none exactly the same as what I'm facing. I'm hoping you can help.
I've been working on a 1968 Charger and am in need of some help figuring out the issue with the lighting circuit. A quick rundown: New headlight, dome and hazard switches. The problem: (With the headlight switch attached to the wiring harness but not installed in the dash and no vacuum hooked up) The park position on the headlight switch doesn't do anything in its "detent" position, but if I push it a little more towards "Head" and out of its detent then the side markers and taillights come on. This is not my big concern. However, when I move the switch to Head all I get are the headlights and all other lights "drop off" along with the voltage to the "instr" fuse. I'm really looking forward to hearing back, thanks again!

Aren't they for opening and closing the headlamps?

Yes, But it is part of the Circuit. Just working on finding out what parts of the system are dropping out? Then we can start narrowing the Circle…
He's off to a good start. Just don't really know if it worked with the old stuff? or Someone got in and tried to rewire it and now it wont work... So, we start at a good starting point, Just the way I see it. But I have been known to be wrong before.. But you know me. I'll give it a shot... even over the P.C.

68 charger lights
I do know when the vacuum ports are connected to the headlight switch the lamps open, also with them disconnected the headlights do turn on. Does the vacuum operation have anything to do with the side marker lights and tail-lights functioning?
If so, where are these relays and are they electrical or vacuum

OK. Sorry, My misunderstanding. You have the Vacuum headlight door system... Not the Electric headlamp door system. Moving-On..
You are sure all the grounds are good. Cleaned, No Rust, and Tight.
When you turn the Headlight Switch on... The power to the (P) Parking lamps goes off or stays on? If it goes off. Unplug the switch and use your DVOM and test to see if the parking lamp (power out) and the power into the switch has continuity when the switch is in the on position?
And that jumper wire from the parking light wire. Why is that in there?

Parking lamps go off. Which legs are those (parking power out and power in)? When you say "switch in on position" are you meaning with switch in "Head" position?

If yes, ill double check when I'm back at the car, but I believe I am losing power in on pink when the switch is in Head position

Correct.... The Pink Should be hot all the time... even if you unplug the harness from the switch. The pink should be hot.
If the pick wire is not hot at any time... Your have a bad part in the wire some place..
AS in not being able to handle the load.
Note: Take the red Jumper wire off, That should not be there...
