Satellite Tires and wheels

This is probably an age old question but with the cost of wheels and tires i want to do this right. I'm looking to replace my tires and wheels and want to go with the old school muscle car stance. I have made my measurements and decided to go with 275/60r15's w/10" rims on the rear with a 5 1/2" backspace. On the front I plan to go with 235/60r15 w/7" rim with stock backspace. I know the 10 " rim will make the 275/60R15 balloon a little due to 1/2" wider recomendation for this tire, but I want that wider look yet to. Has anyone went with this setup and did it work out ok?? Tire rubbing issues?? Unless I missed something with my measurements this should work ok.......I just want cross my T's and dot my I's before I spend the money and achieve the overall look I was after.

I'm a little late to respond to this post but thought I would just incase you still haven't decided on wheels/tires. For my '72 RR I went with 17" all around and also did 275 in rear. No problems...yet. I think I have a 9" rim and 6" Backspacing?? out back and up front it was 8" rim 5" BS and 245 tire. So Iwould think you should be Ok with what you are looking at. If you really want to know what I did I can either dig out the paperwork or measure them. I ended up with Torque Thrust M's (Black). So it still has that old school look with a little update on size. I hope to get some pictures posted soon.

Thanks for the reply....I had a setback financially so the wheels and tires was put on hold. I also decided to rebuild the steering and suspesion prior to wheels and tires ( its a garage project and not my daily driver). I was considering 17" wheels for a more modern look and also hopes of better handling. I would be interested to see how your car looks with the 17's....I had trouble picturing it. I was also thinking about the torque thrust wheels because I like the old school look. If you have time I would be interested in your wheel and tire specs.... but no hurry my car is a working progress. Again, thanks for the input........

I'll see what I can dig up for the paper work this weekend. I am planning on getting it out and working on it next weekend so I will take some pics and measure if I can't find receipts.

Sorry for the delays, the weather was bad so no pix yet but will get soon. The car is burried in garage for winter, so need nice day to clean garage and get it out. I did dig up sizing though...I have:
Front - 17x8--4.5" backspacing 0.0 offset with 245/45 tires
Back - 17x9--5.0" Backspacing 0.0 ofset with 275/40 tires.

Thanks for the specs!!!! I understand on the winter thing, I have'nt hardly touched mine.........I was curious if you noticed a difference in handling going to a 17" wheel? Maybe less flex in tire sidewall.....and if the ride was rougher.........Thanks again for the info

I put them on as it was coming out of 9 yr hibernation. But the way I remember the ride, it is much better now. Used to have air shocks all the up to make room for 50 series M/T's (old school look). One of the shocks was no longer holding air so they were replaced with KYB's all around.

I had a hard time finding any info about the larger wheels (as I'm guessing you are) with our cars. Many people are against it and not lots of our style around. I know my Dad was not sold on it until he saw them on and all the compliments it got. Lot's of people are even doing 18's in back and 17's front. I was scared to go too big, so I didn't go that route. But it would give it the higher back end. Mine sits about level, like it would have from factory. I kept it as close to overall tire hight as stock as I could. I might even be half inch less. I am still trying to get it out for pictures (kicking myself for not doing it last fall) but weather is not cooperating with my schedule. What style of wheel are you thinking about?
