super bee chronicles ....

Well instead of blowing up the forum with posts every week I just decided to group them all into a large cluster of uneducated and misguided questions.*
* *Ok so I fixed the taillights and got them working but there are still a laundry list of electrical issues. #1 the alternator is good and the battery is brand new but for some reason after i drive it a while I come home and the battery is dead. It doesn't stall or anything but my alternator isnt charging the battery.*
* * But the main thing thats bothering me now is that I looked at my back tires and noticed they're bald on the outside edges. I got to looking and its like the wheels have a negitive camber or something. Its like both wheels are set with the top leaned outboard and the bottom of the wheel leaning inboard. I also noticed that it handles funny and feels like something is loose in the rear. Upon further investigation, I found that my leaf springs are nearly flat.*
* * *Could this cause the wierd alignment issues? This kind of worries me and I hope I didn't get in over my head with this car. I'm hoping its not a bent axle or something like that. Every time I drive it I think I find another 1000$ problem haha. *

The charging issue is usually bad ground or poor connection causing voltage drop. The firewall bulkhead connector is a place to check each wire point for corrosion or burning. Look up 440 Roadrunner's past posts as he has many with great step by step diagnostics on charging systems, you will need a voltage tester.

For the axle I would raise and support the car allowing the suspension to hang. Remove the wheels and with help take two 2ft angle irons or suitable straight edges against the axle flanges with drums removed. Measure between the ends with them horizontally and vertically and compare dimensions, they should all be the same if axle housing is straight.
If they are not don't panic as the housing can be straightened. This would be a good time to check all components in back as well.

If the springs are flat ? It may have been overloaded weight wise, and could cause the axel to be bent
Have the wheels ever been on the front ? With a 35 year old car the complete suspension will need rebuilt !!!

ok yea i finally got some schematics for the car so that shouldnt be a problem. electricity is the only thing i really understand well. hence, me being an electrician and (coronet500) that is a brilliant idea with the measuring i was reading and it seems that older cars have the ability to become worn and the suspension will walk. i shall do that this weekend and hopefully upload some more pictures for you guys. (tv lynn) yea i hope not. but if it was bent would it make some kind of noise? the rear end doesnt make any kind of mechanical noise or grinding. and no i dont think that the wheels have ever been on the front because the rear wheels are much wider. but it seems that everything will need to be gone through like you guys say. its a good thing i absolutely love this car. i can now see why people lose interest in their projects. its easy to do i think if you dont have a passion for your vehicle. even in its current condition, i would rather drive that old car than my truck with all the amenities any day. as always thanks for all of the input.

If you were to talk to guys who shorten rear ends, after the ends are cut off and the mandrel installed most are off center and many, lots with no indication to the owner.

These cars are almost like climbing in a time machine. When my one son was young and I told him what the switch on the floor was he thought it was the coolest thing that every car should have. Neat.
