65 Fury I slant 6- new owner questions
Hello,
On a whim, I bought a 65 Fury I. I have owned a million cars in my life, but never any mopar products, until today.
Anyway, this Fury runs pretty good, and held 75mph for the 100 mile trip home. I just wonder, the temperature gage reads high. The needle sits on the right end of normal. Not on the "hot" line, but on the very end of normal. Is this normal for a slant 6? I have heat in the car, and it's not boiling, so I don't think anything is really wrong, but I just get uneasy about gauges who's needles aren't centered
Also, the gas gauge reads empty, but occasionally reads correctly for a minute, then goes back to empty. I assume there is a bad connection or broken wire somewhere. Any common problems with these? I took the gauge out and the contacts were clean.
Thanks fellas.

Hmmm. Does the temp gauge fluctuate at the same time? The mopes have a 5 volt regulator in the dash for the gauges. Might want to check that if you experience bad readings from more than one gauge.
You can always put a thermometer on one of the hoses when the car is at temp and see what it is reading. This will give you a good idea of what the temp is and what you have for a thermostat int here. As for you gas gauge, Check with what Scotty said. It could also be the sending unit connection.
I wouldn't worry too much about that slant 6 motor over heating a little. They are one of the toughest motors out there.
