Gas aroma: 67 Plymouth Fury III
My 67 Fury III is pretty stinky. I thought i'd take it to the local muffler shop to see if i have a leak that could be expelling the smell but then i thought i'd do a post here in case you people know of some simple things it could be. The car is basically all original so its greasy; there are oil leaks but nothing horrendous. Any ideas where i should look first?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I kept smelling gas on my 65 fury after it was pulled into the garage. Not a lot just a whiff of it. There was 47 years worth of grease all over the motor so I started cleaning it up and found that the fuel pump had a very slight leak at the seam. Maybe, start there.
Of course if you do this than you might end up like me trying to track down every last oil leak, and finding stuff you maybe didn't want to find, lol. Good luck, good looking 67 you have.

Update: Non Vented vs Vented Gas Cap
So i took the car to a local here in Austin TX (any recommendations for bodywork and mechanics here?) and we got it up on a stand and noticed the overflow pipe was dripping gas on to the frame below. I had a pretty full tank and had driven probably 30 miles tops. The mechanic noticed my original style non-vented gas cap and said that could be causing such an overflow on a hot day.
Now, i just replaced that cap six months ago - when i got the car it had a vented/keyed cap. But i'd seen THAT cap leak when the parked car on an incline. So i changed it to the non-vented original cap.
Anyone have any thoughts/experience on this theory?
Thanks all!

I had a similar experience this year with my Roadrunner. First warm day this spring I was working on the other car in the garage when all of a sudden I get a whif of gas. I looked under the car and it was dripping. I have the non-vented cap. I had filled her up pretty full the previous fall before hibernation. First warm day and the gas expanded and came out the vents. I learned that I can never overfill her.

With my '68 Fury....
I always fill her with fuel and then take her for a ride.
I don't fill her up and take her home and park her because yes, if full, she'll drip out the gas cap and sometimes she'll set for a couple of weeks.
I took her for a 170 mile ride this past Saturday, the gauge now reads 3/4 tank which is perfect.... until next weekend or maybe the following!
I drove from Woodland, CA home to San Francisco, the prior Sunday, and got 16.5 mpg with my 383 at 65/75 mph.

I just don't get how they could make a 4000lb car like that 44 years ago and barely do better now on a lighter, smaller vehicle.
