Question Help! Van drivtrain in dodge monaco?

Hi!
Im new here and I am also a new first time mopar owner of a 1976 Dodge Monaco
the car is without drivetrain(engine tranny & propshaft) and right now Im trying to get it running as cheaply as possible and later put the proper bigblock in it.
I found a working cheap Dodge ram van 250b from 1988 or 99 with a 318 engine close to me.so does anybody now if i can swap the complete drivetrain and maybe only modify the mounts and shorten the propshaft
I havent found any info about it. some say that the transmission is way to big to fit and some say it does fit.

Welcome.

What engine is in the ‘88. Sounds very doable, the older unit will be easier without computer and electronics.

If your going to do a big block later... Mite want to find a complete engine and trans used to install. Then you will have ost of the parts you need later.
But yes, you can fit a small block combo also in that car. What most of them are saying is that engine mounting and a 904 trans is what it will mostly take to get in set up in the chassis...
Good Luck... Welcome to the site.... Keep us posted on the build..

Thank you for answering! But you think the transmission from a van will physically fit the Monaco? Someone said that it's too big since it most probably have overdrive

Everything should work just fine, mounts should not be a problem because most Bbodys came with the 318 that year. The radiator will work because Chrysler used the same for big and small blocks. If the van has a 727 trans you will not need to shorten the drive shaft but it could have a 999.
Good luck with your project.

The Royal Monaco is the Cbody Monaco is a Bbody.
Either one came with a 400 /727 or 318 /904 so if you van has a 727 trans that would be a big help but if it has the 999 a drive shaft for a904 will work.

The newer overdrive trans may take some modification to the tunnel behind the trans crossmember, could be hammer time.
