Changing starter in 73 challenger 440
Hello, I can't seem to get the starter out of my car. I can't get the headers out because of the power steering and I can't get the starter out because of header clearance. The only option I can think of is pulling the motor. Is there an easier way?
Is there another way? Sure is take cutting torch cut off the headers completely change starter put on highflow stock exhaust manifolds and never have to worry about it again.
Chances are you have to unbolt the headers to get the engine out of the car anyways.
And yes I have cut up headers before with a sawsall and handed the pieces back to the owner in a box. I don't like them at all.

Unfortunately Purple is correct, you're going to have to pull the header, and more than likely jack up the motor, unless you have a lot of room and very thin arms / hands.
Been there, done that.

Do yourself a favor before you put a replacement back in. Get yourself a "mini" starter off a mid -90's Dakota either 318 or 360. Any gear drive starter ever made bolts up to any engine it was made for, IE everything except a 426 hemi or the old 50's cars and some heavy trucks
