I'm not familiar with these, but this:

http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/...structions.pdf

suggests that they are isolated field, just like your original regulator.

(OE Performance no. P4529794)

The problem with all these harnesses is that "nobody" seems to know how they are wired, and none of them seem to have diagrams with them. I just happen to have a used painless that I picked up (turned out not to be that great a deal) and here's what the book says:

(What's your painless harness no?)

Mine shows the white wire no 914 goes to one field terminal--does not matter which. This also goes to the "top of the triangle" connector if you are using a '70/ later Mopar regulator On this diagram, it originally is the blue wire, to the left, marked "existing ign 12V"

In other words a direct switched wire "on in run" from the ign feeds ONE field terminal and the "top of the triangle" pin on the regulator.

The second terminal of the regulator then goes to the second field terminal.

Very important to make sure the regulator case is grounded to the battery, voltage wise

Once caveat of the aftermarkt harnesses, is this question:

Is the "exciter wire" provided directly switched from the ign, or is it through a charge light as on Ford/ GM?
