So currently you are just using break in oil as an additive?

67, That's not a bad idea, I already will have tons of break in stuff in the engine for the first run anyway.

The issue with the zinc is that with the changing of the fuel and the addition of ethanol there is now a problem with the cams and in order to prevent the cam from wiping you need additional zinc in the oil to keep it all moving smoothly, or just use an oil with lots of zinc.

with out zinc, the cam and lifters destroy themselves, and that loose metal is sent throughout your engine, scratching your bearings

Commando, just as a percaution. When I broke my engine in, trying to get it started was so hard. I was cranking and cranking, while spraying ether into the carberator. Some of it must have fell onto the valley gasket, and when the carberator backfired, and the fuel line leaked, the whole engine went up
my extinguisher was in my trunk, so thank god, I was able to get to it quick enough
somehow, not even the wires were burned

to 340CUDA answer to your question is both and to tdra id use the vr1 or the high milage from valvoline also as it has some of the most zinc like 1600ppm and since you live in a warm state id also use the 20/50 blend , and 67 i would not use rotella in a non diesel engine as it has way to many cleaners in it but if the engine is fairly new you would be ok , when you start using an oil with the cleaners in it like the rotella and even the full synthetic oils you start removing to much (bad word) but sludge and your engine will start to have a lot of leaking issues and even oil going through your valve seals , i would only run that kind of oil for a short time if your wanting to free up some sticky valves or rings , im not telling any one its wrong to use them oils or anyother brand but ive done alot of research on it after i was blowing the full synth: oils right out of my exhaust and have talked with many reps on the matter , but either way all oil is good for the right applications
