Rear axle upgrade for 58 dodge coronet

I have a 58 dodge coronet and I want to upgrade my rear axle to something with disc brakes. Is there a place I can buy a new axle that matches the same dimensions and with disc brakes or do I need to find a used axle from a different car that's close to the original?

Look at newer Jeeps, if you find one that will work make sure you get the park break cables and possibly the driveshaft. You will probably need to have the driveshaft modified or a new one fabricated.
good luck

Do you know what range of years of jeeps would work?

I don’t know what year they went to rear disks but I know the Jeep liberty is a popular rear axle. I would start by measuring the axle in your car now from Will moaning surface to wheel mine surface and then try to find an actual same width Plus or -1/2 inch…

I’ve been thinking about the Jeep deal and the Jeep brakes will fit the axle assembly you have. They have an aluminum backing plate that includes a parking brake and caliper mount that you can just replace the drum brake backing plate with. It’s a nice swap.
