2007 Dodge 4.7 Ram

I saw a newer truck that I liked but it was a 2007 and 4.7 motor. I was doing some research on the 4.7 and it has a lot of negative articles on the internet. Seems it has oiling issues like the 2.7 V6. Motor blows up after 70k miles? Stay away from this engine?

When I worked in a dodge dealership as a mechanic about 8 years ago, I only saw one 4.7L come in with issues and this was due to the cooling system being low and the motor overheated.

I think in a full size truck they are the smallest motor that I would go with but they are still a good motor when taken care of.

There are a few issues with these,[other than front wheel bearings seizing up!]. They have an issue with the rocker-arms coming off. Some say it is carbon building-up on the valve stem, not allowing the valve to return [I really doubt this], and causing slack in the rocker, allowing it to come off from the overhead cam design. They now have newer rocker arms with additional oiling. Other hypothesis is that the valve-seats have been backing out of the head! This reduces the valve height also, and causes the rocker-arms to fall off. I haven't checked into this yet, but given the **** Daimler gave us, a hardened seat, backing out of an aluminum head just dont surprise me! Many folks have had this issue. If any of you read this, can you measure your valve stem, or retainer height for us? They also have issues with the exhaust manifold cracking, warping, or bolts breaking off.

The Hemi Rams here in Texas are priced pretty stiff. 100,000 mile examples still command $15k to $20k. Diesel trucks are even higher. 4.7's are more in my price range. It is 1/2 liter less than my 5.2 318 88 Dodge truck. I haul and pull fine with it.

I did an internet search and found what is being reported here. 4.7 Rocker arms falling off and oil issues. Good to hear that has been fixed.

My friends 4.7 Dakota had to replace the drivers exhaust manifold bolts. Busted off at the bolt.
