Magnum 5.9 Rebuild Questions
Some background: I have a 98 ram 1500 w/ a very tired 5.2L. So, I found a 5.9 in a 95 Ram 2500 and brought it home on Tuesday. I pretty much need to know some specifics about the magnum motors as far as rebuilding issues. One of my main questions is whether or not the stock valvetrain (springs, pushrods,rockers) can take a .480 lift cam that I was thinking about using.

What cam are you planning on using?
I only use the stock stuff if it is still good and the cam being installed is a mild cam (idle to 5500 RPM) designed to be used with a stock motor or some basic upgrades. I don't recall what the lift of the stock cam is off the top of my head though.
