Optimal Fuel Consumption
Hello All,
I just bought a 2008 Ram 2500 4X4 with the manual 6 speed transmission. I am getting between 13 and 17 MPG depending on the driving conditions. I would like to optimize that if I can, what upgrades are available for the 5.7 Hemi that would help with fuel economy? This is my first Dodge experience, I would assume the cold air intake and exhaust would apply here, but I don't know anything about the performance of these trucks. Let me have it, thanks guys.

Well with more air means more gas. A programmer would help you out. A cold air intake and exhaust will help out with power for hauling and towing, you might get some better gas milage.
Best piece of advice I can give is to take it easy with it, don't get on it, do the speed limits. I drive 55 on the highway to work in my Dakota (01, V6, 5 spd, 2WD)and get 23-25 MPG.

Thanks for the replies, I didn't think a programmer would do much for a gas engine with a manual tansmission. Can you explain how that works for me? Thanks, I will probably go with the cold air intake, and possibly exhaust. I put a K&N kit on my last truck and gained about 2 or 3 MPG on the highway. Never made it to the exhaust though. Thanks again, and I am open to any other suggestions.

The programmer will really only help you with your motor since you have a manual, so you won't be able to get the full effects of it. I'd stay away from the programmer then.
What about an undredrive pulley kit? Short throw shifter? I know that a HD/performance clutch will help to get more power to to the tranny and to your tires so in a way, you won't be wasting fuel.
