Is a 85 Dodge 318 short block w/heads compatible with a 94 Jeep 318 motor?
I have a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee that needs a new 5.2L motor. I have found a 5.2L short block with heads that is out of an 85 Dodge. Will the 85 5.2L and heads work in my 1994 Jeep?

No it will not unless you feel like doing a lot of work. The 5.2 in the jeep is a magnum motor. THe 5.2 out of the 85 dodge is a LA motor, pre-magnum. The heads are designed differently, the intakes are completely different, the oil gallies from the block to the heads are different (so you can not just swap out the blocks or the whole top end), The exhaust ports are different, etc. You need to find a magnum motor (92 and newer). The small block motors that are 91 and earlier are all LA motors. You should be able to find a magnum 5.2 used and complete for a few hundred bucks. Any out of a 94-01 ram truck, 93-98 jeep grand cherokee, 97-01 dakota, 97(?)-01 durango will work.

Thank you very much for you fast reply it was very helpful. I am going to try to call around to some local junk yards and see what i can find. I also have a 94 dakota that i got some parts for at a lock junk yard and i think they had a 94 dakota with a 5.2L in it. ill will give them a call and see what shape its in. again thanks a lot if i have any other questing i will be sure to post them here.

Actually the years on the dakota that I gave you are wrong. They started putting the Magnum 5.2 V8 in the dakotas back in 93 so any dakota from 93-01 with a 5.2 will be a magnum.
