DRAG WHEELS ON THE STREET

Hi, I'm new to this site and drag racing. I'm building a 70 Cuda with a 511 and looking at wheels for it. I like Holeshots Hole Star wheels but they aren't DOT approved. Am I going to run into trouble running these on the street? I won't be doing alot of street driving, just around town and I understand I'll need a SFI wheel at the track. I'm hoping to run in the 9's.

Why are they not DOT approved?

If Canada, or the state that you live in, allows them for some reason, then yes you could get a ticket or your car impounded for having them on.

I quess that's my question, what's the difference between a DOT wheel and a race only wheel. On their site it says not DOT approved, for race use only. I'm not too worried about the legality, up here they make you go in for an inspection if they want to hassel you but I can always put on another set of wheels and tires for that.

On some of my wheels it claimed they should not be used for autocross or road racing. So I'll assume that since the wheels are lightened for drag racing, in a straight line, they are not designed for the lateral loads that cornering would generate. just my guess.

PLUS...... Drag strips don't have potholes and the like. I would have a drag set and a street set for safety.

Thanks guys, I found some wheels by Billet Specialties that are SFI and DOT approved. I think I'll go with them.

Don't mind at all but being in Canada it's in Beaver Bucks. $260 each for the fronts and $270 for the rears. They run about $230-240 apeice from Summit or Jegs or $250 apiece off of Billet Specalties site. These a 15'' by the way, 4'' fronts and 10'' rears. The finish is flawless, it couldn't be better at any price, even the guys at the shop that got them in for me were suprised. This was the first set they've bought from them.
