My Motor Build up. 383

I am new to this site and thought I would ask what you guys thought of this build up on this engine for a street car.

I have a 1968 Plymouth Sport Satellite 2dr that is not pretty but will be getting better. I have owned this car off and on for the last 20 years. It had a pretty good running 383 in it but it has since expired. The set up on the car right now is 383 with Mopar Performance Purple Cam p/n P5007698. Stock 2bbl pistons (original 1968). Headers, Holly street dominater Intake, Edelbrock 600 cfm carburator. Flowmaster mufflers with 2 1/2 inch pipes. Double row timing gear. 3500 Rpm stall converter, 3.9 to 1 rear gears with sure grip.

The original 1968 motor finally spun number 1 and 2 rod bearings so now I am putting a new motor together for it. The car ran VERY strong before. I am guessing it would run a low 13 to a high 12 if you run slicks. I may be way off but that is what it feels like.

The new motor I am building will be another 383. I have already aquired a set of mopar Pistons 3690829 forged 11 to 1 .060 over. And another 1968 383 short block that is already .040 over. I plan to have that motor bored .060 over, micro polish the crank, new main and rod bearings, and Install the almost new cam from the expired motor (assuming it is not damaged). I have an SFI approved flex plate I will also be using. I am going to re-use the heads off the other expired motor after inspection as they were fairly fresh before. Possibly porting them while they are off. I am also going to install the HEMI oil pump relief spring in the stock oil pump.

What do you think of this build up. I am on a very tight budget. I have acquired everything for this engine by searching and scrounging for deals. Is there anything else I should look in to. I bought the .040 block with the .060 pistons for 350 dollars. I am hoping to have this running no more than 500 dollars more. I know that will be tight but I think I can do that. That would be putting a fairly high performance big block mopar togeather for less than 1000 dollars and that is a good budget. I am hoping to make around 450 to 500 hp with this combination with maybe a light shot of nitrous in the future to bring me up over 600 to 650. That should put my car down in to the low 11s if I can hook up.

Then the next project will be a roll cage. What do you think?

Welcome!

I think that you have a great plan laid out. As long as the parts from the old motor are still good, then you should have no issues. I'd think you'll hit the lower end of your target of 450HP with that setup easily.

Sounds like a lot of fun! Seems like a lot of stall for the converter.

will this car be street driven?
11-1 compression with iron heads will not act to kindly to the 93 octane that we have now

93 Octane? Cool! We can only get 91 Octane here in California. With 93 I could add a little timing!
