ten reasons i hate car shows
1. crappy 50's music blaring
2. props, such as fake drive in diner food, or the leaning little kid mannequin
3. signs made up with the cars mostly useless specs
4. mannequins in cars, worse if it's a car-hop
5. middle aged guys sporting hawaiian shirts, and satin corvette jackets that feel the need to find the dumbest flaws on other people's cars
"uuuh, the factory never used green washer fluid"
6. guy who had a similar car to you back in 1973 that feels the need to go on and on about every difference between his old car and yours
7. older husband and wife sitting by their car on lawn chairs, with the made up sign and front license plate that has both their names on it.
8. guy showing his piece of crap car like he has something worth looking at
9. rockabilly douches with really bad rat rods... half-assing it, getting it to drive, mr. horsepower tats and keeping a pack of lucky strikes rolled in your sleeve does not give you hot rodder street cred - you are NOT fonzie!
10. ricers - power to weight ratio and other useless stats does is not a replacement for torque

There is only one reason that I like car shows, and that is the swap meet. It's nice to look at the shiny old-folks cars (only old people can afford restored muscle cars nowadays), but finding something you need at the swap meet that you really need (and can afford) is a real pleasure.

Those are all really good reasons to hate car shows. I rarely enter any of my cars, but I do like to go look. My reason 11 would be that you can never compete with some of these folks with deep pockets. Some of these folks have six figures in to their cars, and there is just no way most of us can go that route.
Sangetsu, I understand what you are saying, but I would have to disagree about old people in two ways. One, there are a lot of young guys out there who appreciate the old school cars and have bought them, worked on them, and have some really nice cars in shows. Two is that although my body may be 52 (53 in June), my mind and heart are still that of the 17 year old high school guy who always wanted a bad a$$ ride.
I think there should be a different categories for "trailer queens" and "drivers". I also think it would not be a bad idea for a category for "high school" so the really young guys can have a chance to win something and feel some appreciation for the work they have done on their cars.
Again, it all seems to come back to money as it is these days. He who has the most gets the trophy, be they young or old.

i agree with everything but number 8, i love the cars that are a work in progress like mine, i also feel that when they are not restored the car tells a story of it's life, where it's bin and what it's bin through and how it was treated. idk i think thats intresting.

now i feal dumb sporting my hawaiian shirt. horse power to weight ratio: so are you saying my moped that weighs 140 pounds and has 6 hp still isnt faster than a 3200 pound car with 600 hp? . pfft whatever!! ill race any one! but after i fix a few things. i gotta rotate the air in my tires. fix a broken pistion return spring. add a can of compression. and i think the powerband is slipping so i got to tightend that up. also i orderd a cold air intake thats good for at least 15 rearwheel hp. a header with a magna flow cat back system that should free up 7 hp. turbo/intercooler kit.minimum of 30% increse and a 20hp shot of nos. .....i got the ricer lingo!

New cars at shows-One really good small town event that used to draw thousands of entries suddenly started to take registration money from guys with brand new trucks plus they let in every goof with a 10,000 watt sound system in their Honda-that broke the back of any car guys. The show sucks now and it's a fraction of what it was...
