68 Dart w/440 pwr steering conversion?

I just go my first mopar. I am looking to upgrade both the brakes and the power steering. Anyone know anything about the power steering conversion. I read that the A body cars need special modification for the power steering mod. Is this true? Thanx,

From what it sounds like, you're wanting to put power steering in an A-body that didn't come with power steering...

You'll need a different column (or atleast the rod thats in the column) out of a power steering car, the box and the pump.

You could probably pull the whole setup out of an A-body that already has it and swap it all in. That would make it easier anyhow.

On a side note - Nick, long time no see. How are ya doing?

Thanx, Young Jon. Looks like a trip to the J=yard to find what I need. I just picked the car up in Ohio. 42hrs no sleep. I got it home and trying to pull it in my garage....I couldn't believe how hard it was to steer that monkey without Pwr steering. First two things..power steering, disc brakes. I appreciate any suggestions as this is my first car. My wife comes from a die-hard mopar family, and I've already drank the cool-aid..

any clues on what to hunt for in the junk yard for the steering? Target certain models, or years?

powerless steering...

Hard to tell about the gear box. I have nothing to compare it to. Any suggestions about where to buy a disc brake conversion kit, and just in general mopar(quality stuff)? New guy has lots of questions.....thanx to all..

As far as brakes go, look for a post 1973 A-Body with disc brakes, and pull the whole setup..spindles, UC Arms, and if you can, LC arms. IIRC, the LC Arms are the same, but why not do the whole thing. Also, the proportioning valve..a BIG part that is quite small, and the MC. If you can get the offset PB Booster, you might even be able to fit power brakes

To sum up:

Pull all the front brake pats, along with the spindles, upper and lower control arms.

I just got done pulling the V8 K-Fame, front brakes, and rear end off a 74 Dart Sport. Funny thing is, the fender tag and VIN note the car as a /6 car...
