Unhappy 73 Plymouth Duster, 225 engine.

Hello, I'm new to this site. Looking for some help. I have a 73 Plymouth Duster, with slant 6 225 engine. When cold car runs great, idles and drives fine. After a short time when everything at operating temperature, car will stall when coming to a stop. Hard to restart some times, sometimes starts right up. Idles just fine, but as soon as I put it in gear-forward or reverse, vehicle will stall. Need to use both feet to accelerate and hold brake to drive back home. Had Carburetor rebuild, and exchanged for another, same problem. Changed coil, wires spark plugs, distributor, ignition module, ballast resistor. Had intake manifold and exhaust manifold machine straight. Engine has about 5,000 miles since it was rebuild. Have proper fuel pressure to carburator. Pretty much checked/eliminated everything I can think off. Had a Classic Car center go thru this car, and they gave up. Is anone out there have any clue that can help fix my grandma's car. I would love to take her on a long ride again. Thanks for your help.

Its a carb issue with the new style fuels we have... Need to recheck the float. if that's ok.. Reset the curb idle up a couple hundred rpm's... Should help it out.

Tryed a higher idle, at 900 rpm, still stalls when hot and gear engaged

Elmono -

In addition to what Bob said.

1. check for vacuum leaks
2. Vapor lock - check routing of fuel lines
3. Think of any really stupid thing that can go wrong and check that too.
For example: make sure fuel is getting through your fuel filter (not kidding...)

Seriously, for whatever reason, it sounds like your starving for fuel.
Once that's checked, then start thinking electrical.

Recheck the float level.....
Are you also using the thick carb base gasket... That one that gets some folks...
Make sure the brake booster is not leaking when you step on the brake...
Also check the valve setting....
Make sure the point Dwell did not go away... That will change timing also...

And what Archer said....

Yes, using the thicker gasket, carb never runs out of fuel. Dwell timing adjusted to spec per old Michelle book for dodge cars. Seems to be fine cold, only when hot, or operating temp the car starts acting up. Would a torque converter or transmission could cause to much drag on motor? Also car only has manual drums. No booster.

Ok... are we sure we have the rite spark plugs... ???
I'm still thinking it a float level needing to be adjusted....
I would not suspect the trans and converter at this point....
But on the other hand, if someone has swapped in a Over Drive trans? we could be talking a different story..
