Call me crazy or call me Luckey
Greeting,
I found this site just looking around, and thought these guys seem alright. So lets get down to it. I have access to a MAX wedge Small block that come out of a Early 70's Plymouth car. the motor has sat in a grage since 78 and i have recently been giving it for free. not quite sure about the specs on it but from what i understand it has the MAX wedge heads on it which from what i understand are Rare. So what im planning to do is tare it down and rebuild it and somehow drop it in my 98 Dodge Ram 1500. my question is am i crazy or does this sound feasible?

You need to Google around and find head casting numbers, figure out what heads you have. As said above, no such thing as "Max Wedge" small block heads, and by the way, "Max Wedge" is a term that is thrown around WAAAAYYYYYY too much. There weren't all that many REAL Max Wedge engines made. The heads fit RB engines ONLY (because of the intake.) The real heads had NO heat crossover---it wasn't blocked, it wasn't there. They had larger ports than other RB engines, and the intakes had similar large ports. For this reason, the intakes did not fit standard heads and vice versa.
If you DO HAVE small block heads, you don't want to be trying to put these early heads --whatever they are--on your Magnum block. There were changes from the LA to the Magnums. You can adapt Magnum heads to an LA block but it would be difficult going the other way. Besides, Magnum heads are pretty much superior to any factory LA heads as they are. The exception may or may not be the T/A heads.

Is the distributor in the rear or front of the motor. For a 98 I would stick with what is in the vehicle. Too many problems and engine parts are not interchangeable. If it is a bigBlock you would have to change the trans too or find an adapter

There is a member here who dropped a 440/727 into his 03(?) ram and just got it running not that long ago. Doable, yes. Feasable, it all depends on the person.
Whatever you have for a motor, I wouldn't bother dumping it into your 98. There is plenty of aftermarket support for the 5.2/5.9 Magnum motors out there to get some really good power out of them.
