Engine Compartment Paint

I am new to the forum. I am an avid Mopar fan. I don't currently own one, but will soon. Can anyone advise when Chrysler began painting the engine compartment to match the body color. I have been looking at 66 Furys and granted, almost all have been repainted at least once, I am seeing some wheel wells are black and some are the body color. Is it correct to have a 66 Fury with black fender wells?

All the Unibody cars have painted engine compartments that match the exterior.

All engine compartments as of 1962 where painted the same as the body color out of the factory.

So something went awry on my prospective 66. The car was originally gold and repainted red, but both the inner fender wells are black, and apparently, were replaced. If both were replaced, the car may have had a nasty front end hit.

Could be... Or someone just repainted them Black because they didn't like the look of the engine compartment...
