Hi I'm a newbie here with a 70 barracuda

Just got it home today the process was started 6 weeks ago but today's the first time I had a chance to actually pick it up and get it home I do have a very direct question to ask the ignition switch cute little aluminum polished whatever to put your key in is missing it just kind of has the slotted hole in the middle so I have no steering because it's still locked it was tempting to whack it with a chisel or drill it out but people I talk to on the phone said no no no you're going to mess up everything we ended up putting a chain on the rear leaf spring jerking the car around so it lined up with the trailer and using come-alongs to get it in the car did not even have a correct steering wheel I ordered a grant one that did not fit I've now ordered a used one on eBay that should be here in a little bit but the steering is still locked must I buy a different used column or can I just do away with a locking feature for now? Thank you for your time and patience the car is safe in the trailer at this time but I will need to use the trailer for other things
