Hi from way north houston

I've had my 69 roadrunner for ten years. Same old story, lost interest and life got in the way. Now I'm looking to get her going again and thought this would be a great website to help me do so. My first question is how do u tell the diffrence between a 383 B and 383 RB engine?

Welcome to the forum... Be sure to check out the Mopar of the Month contest... I'm not sure but I think all 383's, 400's are considered low deck motors....

383 decoding

First off Welcome,
If you go on google and type 383 Plymouth engine decoding it will give you some site that will help you on telling if you have a raised block or not. It will tell you where to look for the casting #s and where to find the #s for other parts like intake, exhaust manafolds, water pumps and so on.
The 383 cubic inch RB engine was only available in 1959-1960 on the US built Chrysler Windsor and Saratoga (thanks, Ian Smale and Bill Watson);

Original is at Mopar (Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth) RB series V8 engines: 383, 413, 440, and 426 http://www.allpar.com/mopar/383.html#ixzz2LwO3yMkK

Thanks that helps. The only reason I ask is because I want to build my engine up and wanted to start off on the right foot. I read that RB engines were better to build. But my B engine is numbers matching.

Welcome aboard. Stroke that 383. Keep it numbers matching and stock looking on the outside.

Either a B or RB is fine to build. Your B motor is a perfect candidate for a stroker Just remember it is the total package that makes it go fast

X2!

I built up a 383 for an 85 D100 and that motor screamed!

Thanks for the input. It helps a lot. My current plains for it is plastic dip the whole car flat black. I did my 03 ram and it looks great for $30 plus I can use a pressure washer to take it all off. Fatter tires on the back on some 15x8 thrust D's, build the motor and have fun. I can restore it back to lime green later when I have the funds. Luckily there is not much rust.
