hello, i have a 1983 dodge w150 im in the process of building. i want to know how about how much power i will have in the end. its a la 318, its getting bored over 30 and the mains and rods 10 undersize. im putting the eddelbrock performer with the egr on it along with a 600cfm eddelbrock off road carb. headers, dual exhaust. i also have a complete rebuild kit with new pistons and all the goodies. also with a idle to 4400 rpm power range cam. i also plan on upgrading to a hv oil and water pump. Factory heads. Msd ready to run distributor. thats all i can think of right at the moment, any help would be great.

Stock the motor puts out ~160hp at the crank. If you have an automatic transmission then you are probably seeing ~120 of that at the rear wheel. With the upgrades that you want to do, you should see ~200-220 at the rear wheel, maybe a little more. Once the motor is rebuilt and broken in, take it to a dyno shop and have them fine tune the carb and timing. Most shops will do 3 pulls (base, tune, final run) and will tune whatever needs to be. Well worth the money IMO.

 

USE THE STOCK OIL PUMP !!! It is more than enough. Only use a HV pump if you have a 7-8 qt oil pan

 

thanks very much for the info, its a 4 speed, geared super low, and what do you think about a gear drive compared to a double roller and do you have any suggestions of any thing else i can do besides expensive head work?

 

im not sure how big the oil pan is but i have seen larger on the la's so ill stick with a standard one, a new one came in with the rebuild kit.

 

I would stick with a double roller chain.

You can go with a centerforce dual friction clutch as it will help transfer more of the power through the rest of the drivetrain. If your rear axle doesn't have a limited slip or sure grip (same thing), maybe look into getting one as two wheels pushing a truck is much better than one.

 

thanks for all the help, im sure ill be back with more questions, actully, what do you think the torq will be up to cuz it use to be a monster just would like a rough estimation. the block numbers also came back as a race block... didnt know they made 318 race blocks, sittin side by side to my other block they look identical.
