My 1972 dodge dart project :)
Hello there . I have a Dodge dart 1972 with a slant six engine . The engine has never been rebuilt and is leaking and throwing a bit of smoke . The thing is that ill be cheaper if i buy another engine instead of doing the rebuildt . I hv been offered a 360 engine that came out from a van and i need from ur wisdom . What will i need to change it ? The motor moints ? Different axle ? Trassmision ? Came from a van ... Different intake and carb ? Plz help ill appreciate it thanks for reading .

Welcome, the engine and trans are a must your 6 cylinder trans will not bolt up, the rear end is too wide for the Dart. But if you can grab the van it will be nice to have the little parts that you may need or incorperate into your ride

Welcome to the forum
The oil pan will be the biggest problem, I think a Van will use a truck oil pan and a car oil pan is different
A 360 car oil pan is hard to find and a 318 pan is different than a 360
But they are out there just hard to find.
Good luck

Get Schumacher Creative's slant six to v8 conversion motor mounts. The 360 car oil pan is brand new at Mancini Racing. The tranny from the van should mount up fine. The driveshaft is a different story and if it has a 7 1/4" rear end then they may or might not hold up.
And last but not least Welcome aboard.

6 cyl will definitely have a 7 1/4 rear Won't last long behind a 360 What is the end project going to be ??? Money wise it would be cheaper to rebuild the 6
Prices are just a guesstamate to put the 360 motor in
Conversion mounts $250 Exhaust- headers $600 new drive shaft $250 8 1/4 rear end junk yard $250 new Radiator $150 oil pan $125 oil pump & pickup $50 Used 360 Motor $ ??? New engine gaskets $150 Valve job generic $250 Trans overhaul/ reseal $500 Misc $200 Some will say to not do the valves ?/ The last 318 I did for my van had 100K miles came from an Aspen. I did a quick re do and it ran for another 100K miles
The six if you can do the assembly labor work ??? Should be less than $1000

I think the real question is what you want to do with the car and how soon you want it (and your budget, of course). Obviously rebuilding the /6 will be the easiest and cheapest. If you're looking for a bit more oomph and aren't in a hurry, then swapping in a V8 is the way to go. The latter will take a lot more time and though.
Has to be your call.
