like sign says, thats what I just bought. Did a rebuilt engine on my old 71 Dart. All shadetree, only special tool was torque wrench. Drove that car from 81 until 89. Thats 1,000 miles from Rapid City S.D. to Illinois north of Chicage two weeks after build. Hey, I was only 23 at the time. Well, 20 years later I have the time and money to do one. Most will be by myself, what I can't do I will have done, but I will try first. Attached is a picture, not good but I will do better when I can the car in my hands. Looks good, Solid pans and original paint, fenders and quarters look real solid, magnet held real good. Paint is coming off, easy to see no bondo or body filler. More later.
Yes, welcome! Once I get over the cost, pain, disillusionment, bad feelings....and did I mention cost? I would like to get a Dart, but one that is ready to drive! No projects for a while.....I still have to finish my daughters 56 Hudson Hornet!
New pics of car/update
Attached is a passenger side view of car. Starts and drives. Two pictures show the only rust I've seen, well, deep rust. There is plenty of surface rust. Hail damage also. Has an electrical problem, seems there is a short that lights up the left turn signal on the dash but only when the headlights are turned on. The cam/lock is broken inside the column. Went and removed the steering wheel and there is no more short? Don't ask me! It disappeared. I don't want to replace the whole harness just for the cam. Will I have to solder the new cam in? Looks like I will have to. Thanks and more to come.
update
Whew! Five days later and I'm beat. Had wrong cam at first (turn signal switch), was for tilt wheel. Got new one Friday the 2nd of April. Got it in and the right rear light did not come on. Had to tweak the wires to get it to work. Then some kind of weird connection where I could hear a relay going but no lights on dash or outside. ???????? Re-tweak, now lights work, except for the right rear tail light on hazard. Now not even sure if it worked with the old cam. LOL, wouldn't be a mopar w/o an electrical problem! Who cares about the hazards anyway, I don't plan on being sidelined on the side of the road anyway. Trying to play with sanding, the hail damage makes it fun. Found out that the hot/cold works pretty good at removing them for the most part. Using propane torch cause it HOPEFULLY won't warp the hood. All in all I'm pretty satisfied with the progress I've made so far, and I still have Saturday and Sunday to go! Gonna try a soda blast set-up to help with paint removal. Sanding and paint stripper sucks! Am I tired of it yet? Hell no! Just getting started! Thanks.
Sounds like very good progress! It also sounds like you have a lot of energy, so that is a good match with what you have to do. Maybe open a thread in the general discussion or A-Body forums and keep us all posted.
