i would check the timing it does sound like it's way off. also check to make sure the wires are in the correct order as well. if you were to put 4 bucket seats in it and build the center console to end at the back of the rear seats it could work.

that was one of the first things i checked they are the correct firing order. on the slant six forum someone suggested to pull the valve cover to see about a slipped push rod. Ill be removing that today just to see if its that and just to see if theres any engine sludge in there as well.

bucket seats are nice I might put them in but still not sure which way to go. I personally like bench seats for a Cruzer car.

any luck on the problem? the other thing it could be is the dist gear is worn or the timing chain is worn as well and jumped a tooth or 2.

Ill be working on it tomorrow. i think you might have solved the issue, looking back at the paper work i found a work order from a while back saying that the distributor was warn and suggested replacement. I will be removing the distributor to check that out unless you mean the one internally then i don't know how to check that. I will also be checking the coil as well just to cover everything!

if the internal gear is worn then you need a new cam. but on my dizzy. the gear is plastic. so that would be your best place to start looking.

mine seems to be a plastic one as well, I don't think it would be the cam gear considering plastic will break before metal lol the cam lobes seem to be good at leas as the lift on the engine, I had the valve covers off checking a few things and re doing the timing and i watched all the rocker arms go up and down a few times and looks great. very clean inside as well. the warn gear makes since it could be skipping a few times on start up it could run fine then go to crap then run fine again after a few trys so I ordered one its just 3 bucks so it would not hurt just to replace it anyways even if its not the issue.

ry to spin the rotor by hand to see if there is alot of slack in it. listing to the video sounds like a muffled backfire through the carb. if the dizzy checks out then check your timing chain for wear.

Thank you will do, its been snowing out up here so still waiting for a good day, I noticed the backfire as well i had a short carb fire before i rebuilt it haha. the strange thing is it would run then stall out the sputter then just not start then start again, so I'm thinking the timing gear or dizzy gear is slipping some how and just changing the timing dramatically.

If i do need a camshaft I will be pulling the engine and possibly making a hyperpack or something a bit more built up considering the wagon will never be stock again.
