New Mopar Man!

Hello all, I am Scott, I live in Indiana, I'm new to this site and to classic mopar. I recently got a wild hair and bought a 1964 dodge 880. My plan is to save her and keep her mostly original. She has a 361 big block, and something I've never heard of...push button transmission...but like i said, I'm new to classic mopar. This is the first older car I have ever bought, and while in theory she should be a lot easier to work on than any late model vehicle, I'm sure I'm gonna have tons of questions for all you die hards in here, so let me apologize in advance for questions that will have obvious answers!

Welcome!

Looks to be in really good shape. Push button 727 tranies are very common in the world of Mopar.

Thanks guys! I am anxious to start working on my project, anything I need to be concerned with having a 361 engine or a push button tranny?

I think the engine needs tuned up and the oiled changed, but it seems to run great, no odd noises or anything. My dad noticed that the heater core has been bypassed, so I am sure it needs a new one. But I don't need to worry about that until October...LOL

dude

Your going to have a blast! I've been out of the mopar scene since I last owned a 62 dodge lancer and the "push buttons" actually detoured a car jack!. that was back in "94" I think or longer? anyways, I noticed back then that when I went to swap meets or cars shows that the people that owned mopar cars were hella cool. Sorry, I'm from cali. we say hella alot....

peace

Thanks for all the positive comments and replies, I do intend on cruising in her this summer, I've still got some work to do before its drivable. I got the engine tuned up, points plugs and all that stuff, oil has been changed, I still need to do the tranny fluid, antifreeze, and rear end. I had to put a new master cylinder in, I crushed the exhaust when I backed her off the trailer, so I've gotta have a new one put on, which I intended to do anyways, any of you guys use walker mufflers? I need to adjust the timing and tweak the carb, and get the new tires put on, and I think she'll be ready. My dash lights aren't working, and I think I need a new voltage regulator. my headlights and tail lights pulse when the car is running, but stay steady when its shut off?... any ideas?

I bought the walker thrush welded mufflers, the site says they are supposed to have a nice deep tone. Here is a link to their website! http://www.thrushexhaust.com/products.html

I made an appointment for tuesday to get my new exhaust put on. I also picked up some used tires for it. Have any of you guys tried to find used 14" tires?....They are hard as hell to come by! I have not driven it any farther than around the block, and this is going to be a good 20 mile journey for me, so I'm excited to see how it does. I'm also gonna have the tires put on. Any of you guys have experience in wet sanding and buffing enamel paint? The car has some surface rust, on top of the paint, I am almost positive it will sand out, or would it buff out? I've watched tons of youtube videos on wet sanding and buffing, I just wanted some personal experience tips from you guys!

I usually leave the wet sanding and buffing to the pros. It is just too easy to rub or buff through, then you have a whole new set of problems. They say a normal paint jobs is only about as thick as a piece of notebook paper. Too thin for my gorilla hands to mess with.
