2003 PT Cruiser Transmission Problem
I was driving my Cruiser home and it jumped down into a lower gear wear it stayed till I stopped for gas and shut the car off. When I started the car it wouldn't move in either direction. It seemed like it wanted to go, but it was like the brake was on. I called my neighbor to tow me home. I started the car and put it in neutral so the steering and brakes would work better. The car would NOT move when running in neutral, but would move in neutral when the car was shut off. Like I said, it seems like it wants to move when in drive, but it acts like the brakes are on and can't move. anyone have any suggestions on this problem. Thanks, Stan

It sounds like a serious problem in the fact that you lost reverse too. I would check the linkage and have the TCM scanned for codes as a start. Your typical Auto Zone scaner will not read TCM codes. SO you will have to go to a trans shop or dealer. It sounds like it may be locked up in two gears at the same time
Was the check engine light on ??
Was the speedo working ??

First issue is it sounds like it went into 'limp-home" mode. This locks the trans in 2nd gear. Kinda to protect itself. the NOT moving in neutral is new to me! Check your fluid level. Yeah, I know everyone says that, but these trannys are VERY fluid sensitive. Also use ONLY ATF+4!!!!!!! The SuperTech brand at Wally-Mart is cheaper, and ok. If you are lucky, it was just a glitch. Remove the battery ground cable for 15 minutes to reset the fault. If it happens again, then you may be at the mercy of the dealer, or your "trusted" trans shop.
