46RE is a good replacement (you may have the 44RE depending on the motor and build spec). Thing is, once these get rebuilt, yes they are great again, but they don't last as long as the orginals. If you swap from a 44RE to a 46RE (used behind most if not all the 5.9L), then I would think you need to swap the TCM as well.

It has the 5.9 in it now, is AWD, and I would be surprised if it only had the 44RE. As far as swapping it, I don't see THAT in the budget. Getting the 46RE rebuilt is about the only thing I can afford right now That just means the Duster and Demon will have to wait another year

So, between $1900 and $2800, depending on how far I want to trailer it. They all agree it's the 46RE, and one guy even told me that something was a common failure in those between 90-120K miles...but can't remember what that was, Crap. I was going to pull it down last week, but the GF told me to wait. Well, now she changed her mind...Probably take it down Monday, if the guy is still willing to work on it LOL...

So, about $2100 and it seems that the vent tube for the transfer case was not correctly reconnected to the transfer case. Now I need to crawl up under the Durango and see if I can find the hole for the vent

it's a what looks like a large vacuum line, about 5/8", and has a plastic piece on it with a metal clamp. I talked to the guy that rebuilt the tranny, he said I could bring it back down if I wanted. That's just an hour and a half drive in a truck that gets 11 MPG

Also, yes the CEL is on, but that is for evap emissions leak, small and large. Gotta get that taken care of soon...

You got enough ***** to do it yourself? It aint that hard. Ever met a trans guy smarter than you! Lots of places sell kits to rebuild and improve that trans.
