over heating problem

hi just building a 56 dodge 1/2 ton,i put a 318ci w/ 727 auto.Im having a problem with it getting hot,seems not circlating. i put a 195 thermostate then a 180,still when i take rad cap off,no circlation.

Are you using a new water pump or an old one with many miles and years on it? Mopar water pumps have had a problem with impellers rotting off making them inept. So pull the pump and have a look….

Wouldn't "no circulation" imply a bad water pump or blockage some where?

Since you changed the t-stat, odds are it's not stuck, unless they were both Mr.Gasket t-stats.

You could/should change the water pump, and get an IR thermometer and trace the water flow, looking for a drastic change in temp or a reading that doesn't make sense.
