Question 68 273 Up the performance any idea,s

I,ve got a 1968 Satelitte 273 2barrel. I would like to get a little more performance with maybe a four barrel. Can anyone suggest what I might need or does anyone have for sale what I would need. I just want to do bolt on stuff. Thanks Ken

be carful
you dont have a big engine
so, dont over carb
i'd say, go with maybe a 500 cfm edelbrock avs carb, or a little less

Edelbrock has a nice intake that would bolt right up. like GTX said, I wouldn't go larger than a 500 CFM carb. You may be able to find a set of headers as well. A pully kit will free up some ponies as well. Ignition upgrade will help too.

Thanks everyone. Car has dual exhaust now. I will upgrade the ignition and install some headers. I,ll start with that. Can anyone suggest a nice set of headers. I,m just new to all this. Any idea what extra hp the ignition and headers will give me. Thanks again, Ken

The ignition won't really give you more power but it will help to burn more of the fuel and smooth out the motor while it is running. Also, depending on the rear axle you have, I would look into getting a sure grip for it. Having two tires put power to the ground is way better than just one.

the ignition system will help you with what Tim said, but i think it'll give you a few more ponies

a carb , manifold , headers , ignition could see 50 hp gain , could go a 465 holley carb , and down the track a 50 hp shot of nos . try a carby spacer there cheap 1' or 2 inch & good air cleaner & good free flowing mufflers hooker aerochambers . oh windage tray also cheap & easy get a few pony's . if you done all of that 125 - 130 hp gain not out of the question while the gas is on . it might see you into the 15's .
