Mountain View Racing primed for 2010 with new partnership, car
Wednesday, December 23, 2009
Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.-based Mountain View Racing will enter the 2010 NHRA Pro Stock season, the team’s third, armed with a brand new associate sponsor and brand new car.
Driver Vinnie DeCeglie will be back behind the wheel of the team’s new Hemi-powered Dodge Avenger Pro Stock, built by Rick Jones Race Cars. DeCeglie, who distinguished himself in the Comp class, ranking fifth nationally at one point, continues to adjust to the greater demands of Pro Stock competition. Team expectations are riding high after DeCeglie began qualifying in the top half of the field late in the 2009 season.
The team is also getting a boost from new associate sponsor NAPA Auto Parts, Western Division.
“We are very excited to be a part of this top-flight team. They are professionals all the way with a great driver, great equipment and great crew members,” said Brad Shaffer, Vice President, NAPA Auto Parts, Western Division.
Mountain View Racing is owned by Nick Mitsos with sons Chris, Michael and Paul. A longtime drag racing enthusiast, Nick got his start in an E/Gas 1955 Chevy, named Pandemonium, that he raced in the mid-1960s, before business and family concerns put his drag racing dreams on hold. He didn’t seriously pursue his passion for the sport again until 1999.
The family also is an authorized Goodyear dealer with 30 Mountain View Tire and Service locations in Southern California. DeCeglie has worked for the Mitsos family at Mountain View Tire and Service since 1991.
“It’s a family business. That’s what I like about our association with the Mitso,” added Shaffer. "We view NAPA as a family organization and I am so pleased that we are able to get our two families together to partner on this race team.
The Mitsos are excited about the new partnership as well. “We couldn’t be more thrilled that NAPA has invested in the team. It’s really refreshing to see NAPA get more involved in the Pro Stock ranks,” said Chris Mitsos. “NAPA recognizes the value of NHRA championship drag racing.”
