ANYONE KNOW WHAT IT TAKES TO BUILD YOUR OWN 440 SMALL BLOCK?

HELLO, DOES ANYONE OUT THEIR KNOW WHAT IT TAKES TO BUILD YOUR OWN SMALL BLOCK 440? AS FAR AS WHAT BLOCK TO USE, AND WHAT CRANK RODS AND PISTONS? AND WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST HEADS TO USE FOR IT? ALSO PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, I AM WANTING TO BUILD A MOTOR THAT IS STREETABLE AND IS GOING TO KICK SOME SERIOUS A$$. LOL SO WHATEVER PARTS WOULD MAKE FOR ULTIMATE POWER, BUT STILL RUN ON PUMP GAS. ALSO WANTING TO PUT A MANUAL TRANNY BEHIND IT. I AM NOT SURE WHAT TRANNY TO USE EITHER, I WOULD LIKE TO PUT A 5 SPEED BEHIND IT, CAUSE WITH A 5 SPEED YOU GET A LITTLE MORE LOW END AND A LITTLE MORE TOP END THAN YOU WOULD WITH A 4 SPEED. DO YOU GUYS KNOW, OF A GOOD 5 SPEED TO PUT BEHIND A POWERFUL MOTOR LIKE THAT?

ONE MORE THING, I KNOW IT WOULD PROBABLY BE STUPID TO EVEN MENTION THIS BUT I HONESTLY DONT KNOW IF IT IS EVEN POSSIBLE AND IF IT IS, WOULD IT LAST? LOL I HAVE AN NV3550 5 SPEED TRANNY OUT OF MY JEEP, WOULD THAT BE A STRONG ENOUGH TRANNY FOR A MOTOR LIKE THAT, IT WAS BEHIND A 4.0 STRAIGHT 6. LOL PROBABLY NOT BUT HEY IF IT WILL IT COULD SAVE ME SOME BUCKS. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, I AM NOT CAR STUPID LOL, I JUST RECENTLY GOT INTO MOPARS WHEN I BOUGHT MY 73 CHALLENGER, I WAS A CHEVY MAN ALL MY LIFE. SO YOU GOTTA EXCUSE MY IGNORANCE! LOL THANKS GUYS!

Thats what I kinda figured on the tranny, just wondered if someone might have pulled it off before. And as far as a 440 small block goes, I was digging around on google and come across a little article about a guy who built one, and was getting some major horses out of a small block. But it didnt go into detail at all about how he did it. Hoping maybe someone here knows. I tried finding the article again this morning so I could put a link to it, but its lost in google again lol. I couldnt find it.

I can see the novelty behind it, but thats all. For practicality a regular 440 BB, mildly built will give you the same #'s much cheaper and easier. But then, what is really practical about any of our cars?! Let your wallet be your guide!

here is a way to do it. A crank with a stroke of 4.125 and a block with a bore of 4.125. If you bored a 340 block .085 and used a crank with the 4.125 stroke. Don't know if the 340 block would go that far on the bore but a mopar aftermarket block probably would. The crank would fit with a bit of clearancing and using chevy rods. It works out to 440.

That tranny can bolt up to a SB but you need to call up Advance Adaptors for the kit..... and I wouldn't waste my time or money with it. You would save yourself a ton of money and headache just building a SB 727 auto to handle that motor.

As far as getting that many CI out of a SB, you going to be cutting it real close. Lets say you were able to get a 340 or a 360 to that size, your cylinder walls would be small, and there would be a lot of stress on the whole motor. Besides that, it would be so built up you wouldn't be able to drive it on the street.

You need to sit down and come up with a single plan of what you want out of your car and stick with it to save yourself money and time. If you want just a machine for the track then build it for just the track. If you want something for track/street, you need to figure out where you will be driving it more and build it that way.

here's an idea for a five speed. use a richmond 5 speed. It has a 1:1 final drive but a lower 1st gear. You then could use some 323 gears in the rear for top end and still have the low end grunt and tighter gear drops.
Also, I thought about it and a 340 block cant be bored to 4.125. THe 440 sb would require the aftermarket block, (hopefully still available through Mopar)

Thanks for all of your input guys, I am definately checking out alot of different stuff. And as far as just putting a 727 in it... not happening I cant stand an automatic, especially in a car like this. lol. And thats not a bad idea on the richmond 5 speed.

Just come across this but, anyone know anything about the sve hemi heads for the 440? Anyone know how much they cost with the rocker arms? Would you better off just coming up with 10 or 15 thousand for a real one?
