A/C removal?
Hey guys, My 78 Monaco has a/c (non working) and was thinking of removing everything under the hood. Might gain a couple HP and clean things up at the same time. Just wondering what I need to do to remove the compressor and still run what's left? The power steering pump has it's own belt but the alt. runs with the a/c. Do I need a different pulley on the water pump? And it looks like the a/c bracket is also holding the alt, do I need to change that as well?
Thanks for any help

I did this on a '68 Fury with a 383 and there is a bit to it.
I had to replace the alternator bracket, lower 4 belt pulley for a 2 belt pulley and change the water pump pulley for a pulley with a different offset, so that the belt groove lined up with the alternator.
At the time, there were lots of big block Mopars in the wrecking yards so, the parts were fairly easy for me to procure.
There may be different alternatives now but, I'd see if I could find an engine similar to yours, without air, and get what you need.

Be careful as non A/C water pumps are 8 vane, A/C are 6 vane and 30% overdriven. If you overdrive the 8 vane it may cavitate, don't mix and match. The 440 source curved blade pump has given people problems. No curved blade pump will move as much volume as the stock straight blade pump.
