Dumb Holley power valve question

Gents -

When you guys replace a (Holley DP) power valve either to change size or "because you have to..." do you:

1. Leave the carb on the manifold and disconnect the inlets and bowl/plate and make a mess in the process ...

or

2, Remove the carb from the manifold first, drain, then take it apart.

I've done it both ways and not sure which way I like better

Just pull the carb off and make use of a work bench...

It's only 4 nuts holding it on, a vac line, couple cotter pins...

Plus the gas getting all over the manifold... not my idea of fun.

I would leave carb on manifold.Use a small bowl or anything you could drain the fuel bowl into.Remove one of the lower fuel bowl screws and 90% of the gas will flow out. Then lay a rag under the fuel bowl and remove the other 3 screwsSame proceedure I use when doing a jet change on my 2 holleys

Guys -

Just catching up on a few old threads.

Yup, plastic bowl under the fuel bowl and a rag around the base of the carb; it's a pretty quick swap.

Tks

Good job. My attempt back in the day, of using half a beer can, and bumping the electric choke wire, didn't go so well! Good thing it was a Cheby!
