Gear Carrier Question?

I have a 1987 Dodge p/u D150, it has a 9 1/4 rear end positive traction, limited slip. Will a 98 392 gear carrier fit it? My main concern is the 98 has 6 lugs & mine has 5. If I take rear & piston gear (not axle assembly) out of the 98 & put it in the 87, will it fit? What changes do I need to make if I run into a problem?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

You'll need a master install kit. The R+P (ring and pinion) gear set should fit. You'll need to setup pinion depth, pinion bearing pre-load, backlash and run a pattern.

You should have no problem, the only difference is the front seal diameter, don't ask me what year of the changes. All 31 spline axles. here is a good read: http://www.hemmings.com/mus/stories/...feature25.html

Also look into a solid pinion spacer as the crush sleeve is a weak point.
