HELP project idea need advice
Hello I'm new to the forum. I am looking into purchasing a 1937 Dodge Sedan or 1954 Dodge Meadowbrook. Both vehicles have flathead 6 cylinder engines with 3 on the tree. I want to put in a 5.7L Hemi with a 4 speed on the floor. I am in the Navy and don't have the free time to create a lot of the custom parts I would need. Does any one know of bolt on kits to assist in my project? Or where I can find an A833 tranny?

Hi mopar, first i want to thank you for your service in protecting our freedom, your sacrifice is not in vain w/ my household. On your cars, they re just arent any people out there making anything for cars like that. there arent alot of them around, so teh parts are limited. If you can afford to have a local street rod shop do the converting for you, id say yes, you can get a crate 5.7 from ma mopar, then get a kiesler 5 speed for it from them and they can sell you all the hookups for trans to motor, you just need a matal fab or welding shop to rig up the suspenion and mounts to get it in. then youd have to get a painless wiring kit for it if you went w/ fuel inj. your talking some serious jing by the time its done. Its your call, but thats All i can tell you. good luck and thank you again, Doug

Like Doug said, there just are not enough people building/restoring those vehicles where there is a huge aftermarket support. A lot of what you are going to need for swapping that type of drivetrain in, is going to have to be custom. But at the same time, it makes you even love the vehicle that much more, makes you feel even more proud of it and will put an even larger smile on your face when you get it done and people say "wow, that is one sick ride! You did an amazing job!"

well soldier unfortunately your project will cost you some serious $$ and even more time. may i recommend putting in a carburated engine instead? hemi's are expensive and as far as i know they dont make a bellhousing to put the A-833 behind a 5.7 hemi. you could do the kiesler 5 speed route - but the whole idea with using a 5.7 hemi is just so damned expensive. since computer controlled engines require so much extra wireing crap and if you do anything do toe motor - like putting in a more agressive cam - you have to make sure the sensors and computer accept it.
id highly recommend using something more along the lies of a 340, 360, 383, or 440. any of these engines have plenty of aftermarket parts available and would be much eaiser to put in your hot rod as opposed to a 5.7. plus you can definitly get a A833 behind one of these motors. and if you're dead set on fuel injection - you can always buy an edelbrock FI setup for it sometime in the future.
