Question Milled heads

Is there a way or place on the heads to measure to see if they have been milled without removing the intake? The intake mounting was a little snugger than I would have guessed for a stock head. They are BB 906 heads, thanx.

Thats a good question. I will look at a set of heads and see if I can figure out something. You got me thinking now.

It is also possible that the block has been decked. When you put on the intake, did you use just the valley pan or the two intake gaskets besides? If the ports do not line up right you could always have some taken off the intake.

The decked block is possible too. I used the valley pan and the two gaskets per side like the instructions. Sure would like to find out what is done before I start shaving things! "I've cut it TWICE, and its STILL too SHORT!" Haha!

The popular opinion is to pull the head and measure it all, find out what pistons i have and measure the heads too. Jesus, I just wanted it to run so I could move the car till the rebuild, but everything takes on a life of its own. "well... as long as I have this off, I might as well....." you all know the story. I'll keep ya'll posted.

scotty, ihad the same prob, years ago. Its not the heads, its the gaskets that come with the valley pan. teh gaskets although thin, put the sides of the intake up past the center point on the heads.from the factory, they put the valley pan on and nothing else. the valley pan is the gasket itself. just rtv the valley pan on the head side, then bolt the tray ends down, this holds it in place and centers it, then rtv the intake side, and put the intake on, Ive done it this way for 20 years, and not had a prob. my 2 cents.

I agree with last statement by rr69half6bbl.
If there was a place to measure, I think it would be from the deck surface of the head to a core plug or something like that (the same on all heads).
Might have to compare with a head that is untouched.
