New Project

I am a new member here so hope this is the right place to start a post. I have restored many cars in my life and built custom cars as well. I am going into new territory with this build. I have a 72 Charger SE Brougham I have owned for 20 years. Just haven't gotten around to do anything with it. Years back I bought an 03 dodge truck that had been rolled. Very low mileage 5.7 hemi 5 speed auto. I plan on putting this engine in the Charger. I have waited this long (while building other cars) for all the bugs to be worked out. It seems most have as many people have done this build. I am building this for a nice cruiser with decent mileage not a racer. I will have a few questions I hope will be answered here. I want to get rid of the ugly intake on the 5.7 and not sure what fits with the truck arrangement (Alt. and AC compressor up where it is). And I think I can get rid of all the plug wires by using different coils. So any help on this would be great.

Sounds like a cool project.... On the intake, Are you looking to stay with the EFI system or go carburated ?

Not sure if this is what your looking for?

I want to stay as stock as possible. I want to use stock throttle body. I will use the spacers that allow 06 and higher manifolds. My only worry is that with these manifolds I have seen there might not be clearance for the throttle body because of the AC compressor and Alt. at the front of the engine. This Holley would fit with the change over spacers. But not sure the throttle body would clear at the front.

I'm not real good with the GEN/3 stuff.... But i think they make a tall plentum as well.... But i know that will cause hood clearance issues.... I think thats why folks use the Holley EFI "TBI Style" or FiTech...
Not 100% sure, but i have read that the 03 5.7 was kind of a lone wolf???? Something odd about it????

Hood clearance not an issue (I think) I have a power bulge hood. In fact I have everything from a 72 Rallye to put on the car. It will be a one of one 72 Hemi Charger SE Brougham Rallye Sport. Like I said new territory. I built a 70 Superbird from scratch about 15 years ago knowing nothing about them. So I am sure with help from other Mopar people it will be OK. I guess I like strange cars. I also have a 68 Charger with a 426 Wedge with a 6 pack on it. Most of the cars I get are a long way from original so I just do what ever seems fun.

I like cars that Chrysler should have built but didn’t, I have a 500” /440 powered Volare that should have been built buy chyrsler. The 440 fits like the car was built for it.

Iowan yes there are things that should have been built. I like Mopars but have now and have had many different cars. I think original cars should be original. (my opinion) That and a couple bucks will get you a beer. But when you find good bodies with out original engines ...well the fun begins. My 68 Charger has a 426 Wedge and a 6 pack. I bought the engine years back and couldn't find a 65 Plymouth or Dodge to put it in. Then my duel 4bbl manifold was stolen. So I put it in the 68 with a 6 pack I had.. I bought a parted out 72 Rallye so I have all the Rallye parts. Then found a 72 SE Brougham with out the 400 it came with. So modern hemi and 5 speed. And All the Rallye parts. The car was loaded so will be a very nice driver when done.
