Radiator from Spectra???

Well yesterday I noticed on the newport a small hairline crack started at the top of my radiator where the cap goes on. Anyone buy a spectra radiator, was looking at reviews on champion aluminum 3 row ones and some say they come twisted and leak while others praise it, want something decent that isn't going to be a hassle where things need to be modified. Have a spectra fuel tank fit perfect as well as the straps and sending unit. Just looing for opinions. Thanks.

Have you ever tried champion, it has mixed reviews some bad some good, I can't afford be cools but the champion has a lifetime warranty its $200 for the spectra and $289 for the champion and it comes with the electric fans, its 3 row and aluminum.

I know you said you do not like the spectra is it because it doesn't keep your auto cool enough or had leaks, I don't want china junk which after doing more research that's all champion is and they have the nerve to say they are made here. At least Spectra is in Canada but when you are on a budget it's tough to buy the more expensive ones like ron davis or be cool. Everyting now is hit or miss someone could buy a radiator and have no problems and the next guy can have nothing but problems.

Mine just leaked after a couple years.... Even when I put it in, I thought to myself...Man this is cheap looking....
Even some of my old ones... I had recored because my tanks where in great shape. But the cores were short lived in those also.....
My whole point is... They just dont build them like they use to...

Might Try O'Reilly go for the good warranty..

Thanks, also another quick question, I just rebuilt the carburetor it is a 2 bbl carter. Before rebuilding it if a mashed on the gas from the start it would hesitate like it was going to stall and sometimes pop only when I would do that never any other time. The carb is rebuilt and runs a million times better but it still does the pop only when I floor it on take off never any other time. Any ideas I read somewhere about the vacuum advance.

Check engine timing.... 12* should be good...
Adjust the setting on the accelerator pump to give it more shot. Sounds like its just a little lean...

I just purchased and installed a Champion 3 core in my 66 Cuda [was not a direct fit] due to my needs for inlet/outlet placement it was 225$ [or so] free shipping from Monster Radiator. Yes it was warped and it scared me but I installed it anyway and so far the car runs cooler than it ever has [I'm running 2-10 inch electric fans] and has no leaks. Racerhog said it best nothing is made the same anymore and very little is made in this country and what is most of us working folks can't afford the stuff, quality does not always come with the larger price tag do some research and weigh your options based on your budget!!! Best of luck in your find.

This is good to know. I assume the rad in my Ramcharger is going to go at some point, and I reaaaaaalllllly wasn’t keen on putting in a spectra because... well, spectra.

Champion sounds like the way to go.

Spectra radiator that I Bought I returned looked like garbage. I want something tquality at a reasonable price. Griffin is too expensive I was thinking of trying a Champion even though it isn't made here.
