Rebuilding a 1987 Dodge D150

All, I'm wondering if I can get some feedback on a rebuild. I have an '87 Dodge D150 from my grandmother I'd like to rebuild. It still has the stock 318 and tranny, but the motor is done. I have a rebuilt 318 out of a 1974 Dodge Dart. Motor is perfect. Will the '74 318 match up with the '87 stock tranny? If not, which tranny would I need? Also, I do have a 1987 Dodge Ramcharger, painted her General Lee Orange. She is a beauty. Thanks.

The only caveat I can think of, is that some engines, originally destined for auto trans cars or trucks, did not have the bore for the pilot shaft of a STICK TRANSMISSION finished to size and depth. It used to be common to cut a little off the transmission shaft rather than fooling with the crank, and nowadays you can get pilot bearings that fit the large "converter bore" of the crank.

If you the D150 is an auto trans, just use that

Grandma had a D150? Wow, I bet it's in pretty good shape. Engine shoud slide in with no problems. Use the exhaust manifolds and the motor mounts off the original truck motor. At least they're easy to get parts for,a ton of them in the scrapyard out here.
Good-luck.

I was thinking of throwing a pair of headers on her with some flowmasters. She has the 80s exhaust, but all that can go now that she is historic.

440roadrunner is correct about swapping the motors. As long as both vehicles had automatics or both had manuals, they the motor from the Dart will drop right in.

Check with your state emission laws before you start to pull everything off. Some states are starting to crack down more and more now to make sure that vehicles are "emissions safe".
