Reverse?727
I have a 75 dodge van tradesman 200 with a 318 and 727 trany. A while back I put her in reverse while coasting forward at about 1 mph and BANG there went reverse. well, I had the trany rebuilt at a "reputable" shop in San Rafael, Ca. That was about 5,000 miles and 1,000 bucks ago. Not long ago I put her in reverse on a very slight hill and with her front wheel in a Very slight rut and slowly gave a little gas to get out of the little bump and BANG no more reverse!?! I thought 727's were indestructable. Any thoughts on this unusual scene?

Drop the oil pan, and check the flat bar that hold the reverse band in place against the case. Some have a tendency to pop out of place and there ya go, no more reverse. I can't remember for sure, but it seems you can put it in place without dropping the valve body. I bought a really nice '70 Charger cause of this problem for $300 once... (Course that was back about 1990)

The 727s are really good trannies. I'd check out what BuckNeccid said and go from there. If there is nothing then I would call up the tranny shop and see what they can do for you. Most have a 12 month, 12,000 mile warrenty.

I just checked the 727 manual, and it says to check fluid levels, fluid pressure, check for air in system, adjust low and reverse band, valve body malfunction, or a broken planetary gear.

I would bet you find a small piece of strap in the bottom of the pan.......If its broken in 2 pieces, may need to drop the line pressure a bit......does it have a shift kit in it?
does it bang hard in to reverse if the eng is above idle at all.
the shift kit i put in my 72 power wagon had this problem. Still does, to a smaller degree. but proper line pressure made it a lot better.
