Seating rings in a rebuilt 318 with mods

Seating rings in a rebuilt 318 with mods

Hey Guys,I recently rebuilt a 318 with some mods and was told it may take a few thousand miles to get the rings to seat,anyone else have this experience?

Now it depends on what kind of rings. My 318 was rebuilt with moly rings (par for the course nowadays) and the correct bore finish and honed woth a torque plate. I started it up and held her at 2000 rpm's for 20 minutes to break in the cam. Then I took her out and drove her fairly hard for about a 50 mile trip at night. It seems like I could feel her running better at about 40 miles. I could feel the power increase. However, the motor was set up on the tight side a bit. So far I've got about 650 miles on it and I would say that it is broken in. there is no smoke from the exhaust and it starts easily.
