Question Seized piston

I'm trying to get my brand-x 350 running so I can sell it. Its been sitting a few years and one or more of the pistons has seized. Since running cars seem to go for more money, I need to free it up. The motor is still in the car and a breaker bar on the crank and the starter have failed so far. I used marvel mystery in the cylinders today but I dont expect any results for a few days. Anybody have any other tips that have worked for them? I dont want to have to pull the motor apart, if I do, then I'd rather just part it out and take the loss. Thanks.

Yer goin right... now lots and lots 'o patience . Try after 3-4 days... add more MMO, try again in a couple of days...I had the same problem withy another brand-x & I got it freed up after about 5 days... I used the bump with the starter method tho, It seems a better 'shock' to break it free, the breaker bar is more steady pressure.

You're gonna change the oil anyway, dump a little diesel in on top of the pistons it should give ya the desired result a little sooner.

do it by hand

keep adding MMO to all the cylinders, let it sit, add some more, shake your fist at it, insult it a little, add some more MMO, let it sit a little longer and then try turning it by hand.

a little helper is too take the valve covers off and loosen the rockers so your only turning the bottom end not the whole rotating mass, then ounce the bottoms free, put them back together, you may be fighting stuck valves aswell as pistons. if you seperate then get the bottom free. it wont be as hard to get the valves free then . not as much resistance. not to involved, so your not really taking the motor all apart.

Its a 86 Z28 with a 355 4bolt main. I borrowed an oil pump priming driver from AZ today. Ill try spinning that for a while and hope something happens. Next step, the car is a stick [and for sale!] I might let it roll down the driveway and try popping the clutch a few times. I have the weekend off, so stay tooned!

Don't give up just yet, Scott. If you weren't so far away I'd buy the little rascal but alas.........

I'd have shoved a gallon of diesel down 'er. It seems to work better than almost anything else. Shocking these engines with the starter gives you a chance of unseizing but also runs the risk of piston and ring damage. Worst case scenario? -probably rings in the sump.........
Seriously, a bit more patience and you might have some success. Since you have a stick shift it might be an idea to rock the car back and forth in gear a few times each day........................

Cool Unstick

With the plugs out, put penatrating oil (good stuff) not WD-40 in each cyl. Let it set 2-3 days adding a little more each day.
Hook on to it with a tow vehicle at 5-10 MPH and pop the clutch a few times.
If it won't free up, raise your price and then sell it AS IS for a reduced price.
