SRT4/2.4 IN AN EARLY A-BODY

yes that's right. the car is a 1962 dodge lancer GT. she started out with a 170 cu inch slant six. when i purchased the car i immediately swapped the old iron out for a 5.9 magnum from a 98 dakota and stormed the streets with this for quite a while. a few years ago i decided to go modern hemi. i bought everything i needed to get started with the conversion. had it all mocked up into place and then hotrod magazine did a feature on a 62 valiant that someone had done the swap of the hemi to. well this blew the wind out of my sails. (anyone who knows me, will tell you i for some reason have always had to be different). this discouraged me from the swap. and now you can imagine i needed to pursue "different". and that i am, by swapping in a boosted four cylinder.

Well this will be interesting to see. What transmission are you going to use?

What turbo set up will you go with?

I own an SRT4 and can provide you with a wealth of info if needed. But I'll assume you already know about them

the trans is an MA5 five speed, found in the pontiac solstice saturn skye h3 and colorado. right now just going with the factory turbo to get it up and running. then i will worry about something different. i don't know as much as you may think so i will probably confide in your knowledge of the srt4

slant six was around 140 hp. the srt4 is 230 hp before any tuning mods.

well my attentions have been on the body currently. i took the outer skin of a 70 barracuda and grafted it to the lancer hood. it has really changed the cars personality

so i had every intention of building a rear wing for this. until i came up with this idea

[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]

i trimmed the outer skin from the crossfire decklid shell and used it as a plug and inserted it into the lancer lid.

[IMG][/IMG]

screwed it down and tack welded it

[IMG][/IMG]

here it is for a mock up visual

[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]

from there i took out the center styling line made a filler and finished welding everything in and finished it off with the required bodywork and then applied the primer

[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]

then i flipped the lid over and did a little bodywork to conceal the graft

[IMG][/IMG]

applied epoxy primer

[IMG][/IMG]

then i took what was left of the crossfire skeleton and trimmed out another needed piece to finish out the underside. here it is in place. looks lik it will work out with a few filler pieces added

so i did the sanding on the primer. found a few minor details that needed to be addressed. took care of them and reprimed this time with urethane primer. it only got better.
